Allana Buick & Bers (ABB) was selected by KMD Architects to provide peer review and consulting services for the waterproofing of the Santa County Juvenile Detention Center in San Jose, California for the County of Santa Clara GSA Facilities Department. The new juvenile detention center is constructed of concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls.
ABB provided review and recommendations for waterproofing via admixture to the mortar and exterior face of the CMU blocks. After construction was completed, ABB was also retained to assist in design of a repair method to seal cracks in the CMU blocks. Services provided during this project also included review of the construction detials for the metal and built up roofs.
ABB was later retained on recommendation by the County, to recommend a method of sealing the walls of the old building, and to transition between the new and old roofs. During this project ABB provided related construction services including submitting reports and reviewing work in progress.
